More than 100 stocks touched their 52-week low on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) during trade, data showed.

Indian markets struggled in trade with the Sensex ending at 18827, falling 213 points while the Nifty sank 61 points to close at 5699. Weak Asian markets also weighed as the Nikei slumped 844 points on worries the U.S. Fed would trim its stimulus programme in the coming months.

The rupee also remained weak, trading around 58 versus the dollar, awaiting  Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s statement.
